The Perfect Cellar visit RAW

RAW (Real Artisan Wine) is a two-day celebration of some of the best wine talent in the world. Featuring over 150 growers, RAW is one of the most exciting collections of fine, natural and biodynamic wine artisans ever to come together in the capital. Their wines are pure, kind to the planet, very possibly better for your health and best of all they're absolutely delicious.   The Perfect Cellar are proud to represent some of these growers’ wines exclusively in the U.K. So, the chance to meet the winemakers themselves and taste their range of wines was not an opportunity to miss. I’ve attended many trade wine tastings in my time and I have to say, RAW is my favourite. The passion is evident, winemakers openly want to tell you about their wines and most guests attend RAW because they believe in the ethics of biodynamic wines and come to learn and try something new. France’s first female Master of Wine, she is also known as ‘That Crazy French Woman’ and is one of the wine industries strongest advocates of all things natural. Over the next couple of blogs I’ll ‘introduce you’ to some of the winemakers and wines that stood out for me. So, don’t forget to come back tomorrow. [caption id="attachment_1225" align="aligncenter" width="300"]RAW The bright event space at RAW[/caption] Clos de La Coulée de Serrant It was an honour to meet Virginie Joly at RAW and taste her range of wines. They are exclusive to The Perfect Cellar in the U.K. and grace the tables of Michelin starred restaurants across Europe. One very famous advocate of Clos de la Coulée de Serrant was King Louis XI of France who named it ‘the gold drop’. The wine is special in the sense that it is the only wine produced under the AOP Clos de la Coulée de Serrant. The AOP being eponymous of the winery. Made entirely from Chenin Blanc grapes the wines are rich and expressive thanks to exacting attention to detail and old vines. Anais talked us through the wines they offer, some of which the Perfect Cellar represents, the stand out of which was the Bellugue Rosé. A blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Grenache and Syrah and growing on limestone rich soil the wine is marked by finesse and minerality. It fills the mouth with a rich roundness but is dry and racy. White fruits such as ripe peaches and pears dominate alongside floral notes and hints of strawberry and cherry. The finish is fresh and long with a citrussy elegance.
