La Pieve

This is our great find: delicious Chianti at an excellent price. It would be hard to beat this for value and Simone Tognetti never lets us down. La Pieve is not in the Classico zone, but it has a brilliant site: an almost perfect amphitheatre 500m up, giving both ripeness from the warmth and acidity from the altitude. The blend is traditional: Sangiovese plus 5% each of Canaiolo and Colorino, fermented in cement. Fortebraccio, more structured and spicy, sees some old oak.
