We are thrilled to announce that a wine exclusive to The Perfect Cellar has won 5 stars from Decanter Magazine. A panel of industry experts tasted and judged 182 Premier Cru Chablis and Domaine Charly Nicolle 'Mont de Milieu' 2010 was one of only 7 to be awarded the highest accolade of 5 stars. Winemaker Charly Nicolle eats, sleeps and breaths wine; he considers his vines to be his babies. He uses meticulous vineyard management and winemaking techniques to ensure the 'terroir' of the region is expressed in his wines. The Mont de Milieu is sourced entirely from the eponymous Premier Cru vineyard ensuring high quality fruit from which he produces high quality wine. The soil of Chablis is limestone rich clay which comes through in the wine as minerality or a wet stone character that is typical to this style of wine. Tasting note - here's what we think of it:
There is an almost heady character on the nose with floral acacia, ripe peach, lemon and lime zest. The palate is clean and delicate with that typical minerality and the weight and texture expected from a 1er Cru Chablis of this quality. It is clean and elegant with good concentration of flavour, balanced fresh acidity and a long, slightly savoury finish. The wine is delicate but has a structure and weight due to maturation on its lees for 12 months. This means the wine pairs well to creamy dishes with fish, pasta or chicken. Seafood would also be a good match for the fresh acidity and creamy cheese such as brie or Port Salut work very well. A truly versatile wine with the potential to age for another few years.
But don't just take our word for it, try it for yourself and review it on the website.
