90 Points - Wine & Spirits Magazine. Château Montus benefits from a superb terroir, unique in the Southwest, consisting of steep slopes with large pebbles on top of fine clay from the Pyrenees. A miracle occurred in 1985 when this wine upset the hierarchy of mythical red wines and was noticed all over the world, with its significant proportion of Tannat. Coming from the same gravel plateau as Château Siran, S de Siran is the result of a rigorous selection of younger vines, but vinified in the same way as the Grand Vin. Distinguished by a predominantly Merlot blend, this gives it immediate drinkability, however, coming from the fabulous 2019 vintage, this wine is showing at its best now but could comfortably age for another 5+ years. Carefully selected grapes are put in small plastic crates and dried in ventilated rooms for about three months. When they reach the perfect grade of dryness they are pressed and fermented in temperature controlled stainless steel tanks.
