Cabernet Sauvignon leads with ripe blackberry and Bing cherry, while Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot add perfume, spice and structure. It has a silky smooth mouthfeel, equally silky tannins and bright acidity, with a savoury streak of Earl Grey tea and gentle herbs. Serve it with a grilled steak, roast lamb or a mushroom and thyme roast, and decant it for an hour first.

Taste

A sweet and chalky nose, fuelled by ripe blackberry and orange flavoured pipe tobacco aromas, with a puff of talc and a wee bit of catmint hovering in the background. The palate has a silky smooth mouthfeel, equally silky tannins and bright acidity, as the backdrop for Bing cherry, Earl Grey tea and mildly herbal flavours. Aged for 22 months in French oak, 37% of it new. Delicious now with a decant, and it should keep for a decade or more.

Wine Press Ratings

93 Points - Wine Spectator (2022 Vintage)

93 Points - Wine Enthusiast (2022 Vintage)

"A silky smooth mouthfeel, equally silky tannins and bright acidity"

92 Points - Jeb Dunnuck (2022 Vintage)

Blend

Cabernet Sauvignon 80%, Merlot 9%, Cabernet Franc 8%, Petit Verdot 3%

About the Producer

Abeja, Spanish for bee, is a century old farmstead in the foothills of the Blue Mountains outside Walla Walla, named to honour a deep respect for the environment and the value of working together. It was founded by Ken and Ginger Harrison, who came to Walla Walla in the late 1990s searching for land to plant world class Cabernet Sauvignon. The wines are made by Dan Wampfler and Amy Alvarez-Wampfler, whose combined experience includes Dan's time at Columbia Crest, where he helped make the wine that became Wine Spectator's number one wine of 2009. Abeja was named Washington Winery of the Year by Great Northwest Wine in 2023.
