91 Points - Guia Penin. The Bodegas Mas Alta Els Pics Priorat is one of the stars of their impressive line-up of Priorat wines. The Els Pics Priorat is a blend of Grenache, Merlot and Syrah with the grape being drawn from several small, high-quality sites across the plateau and coastal-influenced slopes. The mixture of slate and clay-limestone soils imbues minerality and richness, while the myriad of complex micro-climates imbues it with nuance and delicacy. After being hand-picked and given a long, slow fermentation, 50% of the wines are aged in used French oak barrels and 50% in concrete tanks. New oak is shunned as the idea here is to let the wine’s fruity beauty shine through.

The Bodegas Mas Alta Els Pics Priorat 2020 doesn’t have the roasted character that has blighted so many Priorat wines from the overheated 2020 vintage, but it does show this small harvest’s excellent concentration. Very deeply coloured, the bouquet opens with aromas of baked plums, strawberries, cherries and liquorice. On the palate it’s full, rich and enveloping, offering delicious layers of fruits of the forest, savoury minerals, a twist of green herbs and black pepper, with a shot of raspberry liqueur coming in on the finish. Drinking well now, you can see this ageing magnificently over the coming decade.
About the Producer
Bodegas Mas Alta is one the jewels in the renowned Denominació d'Origen Qualificada (DOQ) of Priorat in northeastern Spain. In common with other Priorat superstar wineries such as Pingus, Bodegas Mas Alta was founded by non-Spaniards, the Belgian Lambrecht and Vanhoutte families in 1999 who could also see the region’s exceptional potential. Since its establishment in 1999, Bodegas Mas Alta’s wines have taken the world by storm, collecting many prestigious awards and wowing critics with their wines. Their vines are planted at altitudes of between 200 and 500m above sea level, an altitude that cools and lengthens the growing season giving noble varieties such as Grenache, Syrah, and Merlot the time they need to reach perfect ripeness and exceptional character. Certified organic since 2009, the wines of Bodegas Mas Alta have a purity and complexity that makes their wines even more compelling.

The TastingBOX is delivered free of charge by UK Royal Mail Tracked 48hr to UK addresses only.
As indicated in our Quality Promise we will happily refund or exchange any faulty bottles. All we ask is the bottles in question are returned to us at least half full for verification purposes. If a bottle is broken on delivery we will also replace or refund it but we do require photographic evidence of the breakage. Equally we can arrange for the bottles to be collected the next time you receive a delivery from us.
Should we be unable to fulfil any part, or all of an order, Perfect Cellar (Beyond the Bottle Ltd) will suggest comparable substitutions. You are free to refuse these suggestions and are eligible for a full refund of relevant parts of the order.
In all instances, Perfect Cellar (Beyond the Bottle Ltd) must be informed of any claim within 24 hours of receipt of delivery by email or telephone. All refunds will be issued after we have received and approved the faulty items and the amount will be re-credited to your account within 30 days. The amount refunded will be equal to the full amount paid for the relevant products at the time of purchase and must be made by the same payment method as the original sale.
If you choose to cancel your contract of sale with Perfect Cellar (Beyond the Bottle Ltd) you may do so within 30 days of receipt of the goods. If the goods have already been dispatched they must be returned to us unopened and undamaged, and Perfect Cellar (Beyond the Bottle Ltd) will not be liable for any costs associated with the original or return delivery.
No refund can be given when a case has left bond as the value will be affected. Individual bottles of Fine Wine will be considered for refund on a case-by-case basis.
We advise contacting our Customers Services team before making any claim to ensure the process goes as smoothly as possible.
Advent Calendars - Due to the made-to-order nature of our Advent Calendars, they are not eligible for a full refund. However, we reserve the right to issue a refund in the form of store credit.
