Taste

Winemakers tasting note: Wine of high colour, intense garnet with purple trim. Clean and transparent. Intense aromas, notes of black fruit, compotes and jams, black plums, butters and slightly floral. Balsamic. Smoked notes, spices, coconut and cloves appear from its ageing in the barrel. Powerful entry, structured, elegant. Pleasant and long on the palate.

Wine Press / Awards

93 Points - Tim Atkin (La Rioja Special Report)

“Graciano ripens well in the warmer conditions of the Rioja Oriental, bringing backbone and structure as well as flavour to this blend with Tempranillo. Aged in new wood, it's an ambitious wine with savoury tannins, some earthy, forest floor notes and layers of damson and blueberry fruit. 2021-27.”

94 Points - Josh Reynolds (Vinous Media)

Production

Hand harvested in cases, fermented in open large barrels, 500 litres with frequent stirring. After fermentation it was pressed and went with its lees to new French barrels for malolactic fermentation, it was aged there for 18 months. After ageing it was bottled and kept in the winery for 2 years before labelling.

About the Producer

This large, family-owned estate in the northern foothills of the Iberian Massif (Valle de Ocón) encompasses 2,000 acres; composed of 1,360 acres of indigenous wood with a mixture of species from mountain and Mediterranean environments, 272 acres of vineyards, and 37 acres of olive groves. The remainder of the estate is dedicated to growing almonds and cereal crops.
The winery's focus in production is to seek a balance between their activity and the local environment so as to sustain or improve its vitality and biodiversity. They see the environment as not just the part related to nature, but also that related to the human beings who live and work in those surroundings.
