It has the plush, velvety Merlot heart and wild berry perfume that make Pomerol so seductive, with a little Cabernet Franc for a floral lift and Cabernet Sauvignon for structure. It is a wine for roast duck, lamb, beef or a mushroom risotto. Decant it carefully off any sediment and serve it just below room temperature.

Taste

Opaque purple in youth, with a garnet glow now at the rim. The nose is charming and perfumed, with wild raspberries, blackberries and wild strawberries, plus smoke and spice. The palate is full bodied and rich, with dark fruit, a velvety texture and ripe, softened tannins. The finish is long and warm. Delicious now.

Wine Press Ratings

94 Points - Wine Advocate (2008 Vintage)

"Another resounding success for the vintage"

93 Points - Wine Spectator (2008 Vintage)

93 Points - Decanter (2008 Vintage)

Blend

Merlot 85%, Cabernet Franc 10%, Cabernet Sauvignon 5%

About the Producer

Château Clinet sits on the highest point of the Pomerol plateau, and old maps show vines were planted here as early as 1785. In the 18th century it was owned by the same family as Pétrus. It belonged to the Audy family from 1900 until 1991, and the arrival of managing director Jean-Michel Arcaute in the late 1970s, together with consultant Michel Rolland, turned its fortunes around. The Laborde family bought it in 1998, and Ronan Laborde has managed it since 2004, building a new winery and replanting parts of the vineyard. He farms in an environmentally friendly way, ploughing the soil and growing grass between the rows.
