Chateau Grand-Puy-Lacoste Pauillac 2013
Chateau Grand-Puy-Lacoste Pauillac 2013
91 Points - Wine Enthusiast. Château Grand-Puy-Lacoste produced an outstanding 2013. Writing in the Wine Advocate, Neal Martin described it as ‘one of the finest Pauillac wines of the vintage.’ A cool, wet spring, baking hot July, and a harvest carried out in fits and starts, this was a vintage that tested the winemakers’ skills to the limit. Grand-Puy-Lacoste’s Xavier and Emeline Borie were more than up to the challenge though and produced a wine that warrants its status as a Grand Cru Classé. Plenty of patience is often required of Grand-Puy-Lacoste, but the 2013 is now at its impressive drinking peak.

91 Points - Wine Enthusiast
"This is a well-made, ripe while structured wine. With its juicy black-currant fruits, edge of firm tannins and balanced character, it brings out the best of the year with fruit and not too much structure. Drink from 2019."
Taste
The 2013 Grand-Puy-Lacoste has a welcoming, forward style to it. Typically deeply coloured, the bouquet is well-defined and harmonious, with plenty of blackberry, strawberry and plum, offset by the classic Pauillac ‘pencil lead’ tone. Medium-bodied and with noticeable minerality, the fruit is led by cassis and blackberries, but there are red berries and plums here too. Finely structured with good minerality, this is Grand-Puy-Lacoste at its most refined and elegant. It’s at its peak now and will remain so for another 5-7 years.
About the Producer
Château Grand-Puy-Lacoste is a 16th-century property located in the northern Bordeaux commune of Pauillac. It was included in the famed 1855 classification as a Cinquieme Cru Classé (fifth growth), though most critics now consider its wines to be of even higher quality. Its brilliantly sited vineyard sits around the château and covers 55 hectares. 75% are given over to Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% to Merlot and 5% to Cabernet Franc, which combine to give a classic Pauillac style of wine; powerful, well-structured, and profound.
