Château Jean Faure Grand Cru Classé Saint-Émilion 2018 (6 Bottle Case)

Château Jean Faure Grand Cru Classé Saint-Émilion 2018 (6 Bottle Case)

95 Points Wine Spectator. One of Saint-Émilion's most prestigious Grand Cru's, located right next door to the famed Château Cheval Blanc. From the oldest surviving wine producing château in Saint-Émilion comes this incredible Grand Cru wine from a fabulous vintage. A sensationally moreish, fragrant and textured wine created by the renowned Olivier Decelle.  "Another over-achiever in the vintage, the 2018 Château Jean Faure checks in as 65% Merlot, 30% Cabernet Franc, and 5% Malbec, which comes from a great terroir not far from Cheval Blanc, Figeac, and Ripeau. Sporting a vivid purple color and incredibly floral, elegant aromas and flavors, it hits the palate with full-bodied richness, a seamless texture, building tannins, and a great finish. The Cabernet Franc plays the lead role at this point, and this is going to benefit from 2-4 years of bottle age." If you like Cheval Blanc 2009 (£900 a bottle), you'll love this! Red wine at its best.

About the Producer

Château Jean Faure is located in the illustrious Saint-Émilion region of Bordeaux, just a stones throw from Château Cheval Blanc. Part visionary, part taskmaster and 100% dedicated to world class Bordeaux, Olivier Decelle has in a few short years transformed the long neglected estate of Jean Faure to Grand Cru Classé status. History counts for a lot in the world of French wine. The 1855 classification of Left Bank Châteaux remains an integral part of the Bordeaux culture today. Château Jean Faure was originally a well-respected Grand Cru Classé, but it was dropped from the classification in 1986 until under the ownership of Olivier Decelle it regained the Grand Cru Classe appellation in 2012.

Taste

95 Points Wine Spectator: "Lovely cassis, bergamot and cherry notes glide along, backed by a light mineral twinge. The ample structure is refined and well-embedded. Very pure."

95 Points Jeb Dunnuck: "Another over-achiever in the vintage, the 2018 Château Jean Faure checks in as 65% Merlot, 30% Cabernet Franc, and 5% Malbec, which comes from a great terroir not far from Cheval Blanc, Figeac, and Ripeau. Sporting a vivid purple color and incredibly floral, elegant aromas and flavors, it hits the palate with full-bodied richness, a seamless texture, building tannins, and a great finish. The Cabernet Franc plays the lead role at this point, and this is going to benefit from 2-4 years of bottle age."

93 Points Decanter: "Olivier Decelle is the owner here, doing good work again. This is tight, more old-school St-Emilion in style. It's chewy and broad with raspberry coulis and chocolate notes, and yet there's a juiciness and a freshness running through the palate with touches of chalky minerality, steel and slate that bring elegance to the finish."

"Among the highest Cabernet Franc levels in St-Emilion. Not hugely expressive right now, but there is a ton of potential here. Pretty closed down on the palate, this has excellent structure, a good tannic frame and rippling black cherry fruits. The bones are here, it just needs an extra few years in bottle to go over the top. Organic."

92 Points James Suckling: "A tangy and deep red with blackberries and blueberries that follow through to a medium body, firm tannins and a flavorful finish."

91 Points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2018 Jean Faure is deep garnet-purple in color and opens with tar, new leather and scorched earth notes giving way to baked black plums, blackberry pie and mocha scents. Medium to full-bodied, it has a firm, grippy texture and plenty of freshness lifting the savory flavors to a long finish."
