Silky, perfumed and fresh, it is the kind of Graves red that tastes far more serious than it looks on the shelf. Merlot adds plush, juicy fruit, and the vineyard is tended without herbicides, so the wine stays pure and lively. Ripe plum and blackcurrant meet a savoury edge of herbs and tobacco, making it generous and precise in equal measure. Perfect for a roast, a burger or a Tuesday night, and one you'll be glad to have a case of.

Taste

Deep, opaque crimson in the glass. The nose is perfumed, with plum, redcurrant and crunchy red and black bramble fruit, plus hazelnut, mocha, violets, tobacco and dried herbs. Medium bodied and smooth, supple and almost silky, with a lovely weight and a mineral, dry but appealing texture. Elegant, with power underneath and a soft spiced, wide finish. It is drinking well now with an hour in a decanter, though a little more time will make it even more charming, and it should keep through the mid 2030s.

Wine Press Ratings

92 Points - Decanter (2020 Vintage)

"Smooth, supple, almost silky, with a lovely texture and weight"

Blend

Cabernet Sauvignon 60%, Merlot 40%

About the Producer

Clos Floridène sits on the limestone plateau of Pujols sur Ciron in Graves, close to Barsac. It was founded in 1982 by Denis and Florence Dubourdieu, who named it by combining their own first names. Denis Dubourdieu (1949 to 2016) was one of the great figures of modern Bordeaux, a professor at the University of Bordeaux's wine institute and a pioneer of fresh, precise dry white Bordeaux. The estate now covers around 40 hectares, with the vineyard ploughed traditionally, treated without herbicides and fed with vegetable compost. It remains in the family, who own five Bordeaux properties.
