The couple built a wine export business to Taiwan through the late 1980s, then launched Hedges Cellars in 1987 with their first shipment — a Columbia Valley Cabernet-Merlot — to Sweden. In 1989 they bought 50 acres on Red Mountain in the Yakima Valley and planted 40 acres of Bordeaux varieties, helping pioneer what would become Washington's most prestigious red-wine AVA. Early recognition followed quickly: a gold medal for their Cabernet-Merlot in 1990, and their 1995 "Three Vineyards" wine landing in Wine Spectator's Top 100 Wines in the World.

The estate began converting to biodynamic farming in 2007-08, released Washington's first Demeter-certified biodynamic Cabernet Sauvignon in 2015, and achieved full Demeter Biodynamic Estate certification across all 120 acres by 2021 — treating the vineyard as a single, self-contained living ecosystem worked to the lunar calendar. Today the estate is run by the second generation: Sarah Hedges Goedhart, head winemaker since 2015, and her brother Christophe Hedges, President of Global Sales. The Descendants Liégeois Dupont range carries Anne-Marie's own family name, tying the winery's Red Mountain fruit back to her Champagne roots.
