Jane Anson called this 2019 the best Pauillac de Latour in recent years, with a juicy, seductive fruit character that makes it easy to enjoy already. Cabernet Sauvignon leads, with a generous slice of Merlot for plushness and a little Petit Verdot for spice. The estate farms with draft horses and biodynamic methods in parts of its vineyard. Serve it with roast lamb or a good steak, and give it a short decant.

Taste

Dark, fleshy and seductive, with blackberry, smoked plum and blueberry, then truffle, cigar box, cedar and leafy herbs. There are also notes of chocolate, cocoa bean, liquorice and smoked earth, with the graphite edge of Pauillac. The palate is medium bodied, fresh and juicy, with supple, chalky tannins. The finish is long and gently savoury. Aged in about 35% new oak, with part in larger barrels. Delicious now, and it should keep for 15 years or more.

Wine Press Ratings

94 Points - James Suckling (2019 Vintage)

"some lovely fruit and juiciness"

93 Points - Jane Anson, Inside Bordeaux (2019 Vintage)

"Easily the best Pauillac de Latour in recent years"

93 Points - Vinous (2019 Vintage)

"dark, fleshy and seductive"

Blend

Cabernet Sauvignon 55.8%, Merlot 38.8%, Petit Verdot 5.4%

About the Producer

Château Latour is one of the most celebrated estates in Bordeaux, a First Growth in Pauillac with roots going back to the 14th century, owned by François Pinault since 1993. The estate has used draft horses to plough the soil since 2008, and it was certified organic by Ecocert, with its wines certified from the 2018 vintage. Parts of the Enclos are also farmed biodynamically. This wine, Le Pauillac de Château Latour, was first made in 1973. It comes mainly from younger vines and plots outside the famous Enclos, and it has been made every year since 1990.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0272/9843/1058/files/LePauillacdeChateauLatour_e5f3cd83-210b-4751-b798-aaf9e23342f2.png?v=1790779536
