margaux-de-lucien-lurton-2019
Margaux De Lucien Lurton 2019

A Margaux that carries the name of Lucien Lurton, the quiet, devout winegrower who built one of the great family empires of Bordeaux, and who died in March 2023 aged 98 after 70 years at Château Brane-Cantenac. He inherited a single estate and went on to gather Durfort-Vivens, Climens, Desmirail, Bouscaut and more, guided by the great oenologist Émile Peynaud, before dividing them among his children. This wine is a way to taste that legacy. Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot give it a perfumed, floral, silky style, with fine ripe fruit and a touch of noble oak. It is elegant, harmonious and very Margaux, so it suits veal with mushrooms, pan fried foie gras or a roast. Serve it just below room temperature.

Taste

Beautiful garnet in colour with brilliant reflections. The nose is plump and gourmand, with ripe, refined fruit, and a floral and mineral lift. The palate is velvety, with a noble touch of oak ageing and concentrated flesh that is graceful and elegant despite its youth. The finesse and harmony that reveal the terroir of Margaux are all there, and the wine should soften further to give even more velvet. Best enjoyed now.

Blend

Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot

About the Producer

Lucien Lurton was one of the most respected figures in Bordeaux. He inherited Château Brane-Cantenac in Margaux in the mid 1950s, made it his headquarters for the next 70 years, and added nine more properties, from Entre-Deux-Mers to Sauternes, including Durfort-Vivens in the early 1960s, Climens in 1971, Bouscaut in 1979 and Desmirail in 1980. Advised by Émile Peynaud, he was rewarded with the success of the 1961 vintage. In 1992 he handed his estates to his children, with Henri taking Brane-Cantenac, Gonzague taking Durfort-Vivens and Bérénice taking Climens. The house still bears his name as Lucien Lurton & Fils, and this Margaux continues his tradition of elegant, precise Bordeaux.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0272/9843/1058/files/BlankBottle_e7b992c8-fcaa-4332-9c65-77d832a1f124.png?v=1752073761
