There’s plenty of density here, but it’s not just about power, there’s freshness and lift too, which keeps it from feeling heavy. A polished, modern style, built on bold fruit and careful blending.

Taste

Ripe blackberry, raspberry and dark plum sit at the core, layered with notes of cocoa, espresso and sweet spice. The palate is rich and mouthfilling, with soft, rounded tannins and a touch of freshness that carries through to a long, slightly savoury finish.

Vivino Rating 4.3 (Apr 2026)

Wine Press Ratings

93 Points - Owen Bargreen (2023 Vintage)

"An outstanding edition of Zinfandel, the 2023 Orin Swift ‘Eight Years In the Desert’ was storied in mainly neutral French oak for six months prior to bottling. This comes off round and generous, loaded with bright red and dark fruits that collide with chocolate cake and Arabica bean on the palate."

About the Producer

The history of Orin Swift Cellars dates back to 1995 when on a lark, David Swift Phinney took a friend up on an offer and went to Florence, Italy to spend a semester “studying”. During that time, he was introduced to wine, how it was made, and got hooked. A few more years of university led to graduation and eventually a job at Robert Mondavi Winery in 1997 as a temporary harvest worker. Deciding that if he was going to work this hard, it would eventually have to be for himself, he founded Orin Swift Cellars in 1998; Orin is his father’s middle name and Swift is his mother’s maiden name. With two tons of zinfandel and not much else, he spent the next decade making wine for others as well as himself and grew the brand to what it is today.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0272/9843/1058/files/OrinSwift8YearsintheDesert2048pxx2048px.png?v=1741164556
