1 * Michel Genet 'MG BB Spirit' Grand Cru Champagne NV
91 Points - Cellar Tracker - From the Grand Cru vineyards of Chouilly comes this stunning Blanc de Blancs (100% Chardonnay) Grand Cru Champagne. Complex toasty and citrus notes are well balanced in this fantastic value premium Champagne. Gold yellow colour with aromas of pastries and freshly baked bread. On the palate, citrus dominated flavours of lemon, tangerine & grapefruit with a complex finish of cocoa and linseed oil. Under £40 this is without a doubt, one the best Grand Cru champagnes you will ever taste!
1 * Domaine de Bois Mozé Crémant de Loire NV
91 Points - James Melendez - An exceptional organic sparkling wine that puts many champagnes in its shadow. This excellent Organic Crémant de Loire has been aged for a minimum of 12 months to obtain maximum aromatics and complexity. The first nose is delicate and very fresh, then it is more expressive through a small biscuit tip after aeration. We find this in the mouth within a compact texture, built by the time on slats, illustrated by small and delicate bubbles and supported by aromas of fresh lime, apricots, lemongrass and peaches. The delicate bubbles and balanced acidity give this Crémant poise, finesse and elegance.
1 * Domaine Edmond Rentz Pinot Gris Froehn Grand Cru 2018
Wines from the Grand Cru vineyard Froehn have exceptional aromatic purity, and this Pinot Gris is a medium-dry white wine, its nose is a delicate mix of smoked aromas (grilled almonds), honey, quince and candied fruits. An absolute treat. It is unctuous, harmonious and very refreshing on the palate. It also has long-lasting longevity, which makes it an excellent wine to age.
1 * Domaine Charly Nicolle Chablis 1er Cru 'Mont de Milieu' 2020
Considered one of the best Premier Cru's in Chablis, the 'Mont de Milieu' vineyards are on a gently sloping hill which mirrors the terroir and aspect of its Grand Cru neighbours. 40-60 year old vines produce a wine with rich complexity and opulence, whilst retaining the acidity essential to all great quality Chablis. Floral notes of acacia and its clay limestone origins reign. In mouth, its character, the terroir and all the qualities of a Mont de Milieu are revealed: mineral and rich, powerful ripe fruit. Drink now, or leave to mature for the next 5-7 years.
1 * Domaine Latour-Giraud Meursault Premier Cru Genevrières 2020
97 Points - Jasper Morris MW. In the heart of the Côte des Blancs to the south of the village of Meursault is the famed 1er cru Genevrières, named after the juniper trees that used to grow there many years ago. The Domaine Latour-Giraud Meursault 1er Cru Genevrières is a wine of exquisite structure and length, with a wonderful elegance and smooth rounded palate. Pure, very fine with nice fruit on the nose. The palate shows a deep complexity with an exceptional minerality and energy. Round, deep, smooth with elegant finesse and structure.
1 * Domaine Decelle & Fils Nuits Saint Georges 1er Cru 'Aux Bousselots' 2017
The 'Aux Bousselots' Premier Cru vines are on a well-drained, south-facing plot on the Vosne-Romanée side of the village which has a reputation for making a very gracious style of Burgundy with a natural charm. Aromas of small red fruits and spices, the tannic structure was firm in its youth but has gained softness over time, and this Cuvee from the fabulous 2017 vintage is maturing beautifully.
1 * Casa La Rad Tinto Rioja DOCa 2018
93 Points - James Suckling - Gold Medal Winner - Mundus Vini. Casa La Rad is a winery dedicated to the environment to sustain and improve its vitality and biodiversity. From the La Rad vineyard, the grapes are handpicked and carefully selected from bush trained vines 35 years or older, before malolactic fermentation in French oak barrels of 500 and 225 litres where it will be aged for at least 14 months. A highly rated wine by the international wine press, and gold medal winning wine at the Mundus Vini awards, Casa La Rad Tinto is a Rioja in the modern style not overpowered by the injudicious use of oak, with layers of complex aromas and vibrant fruit. A wine to be enjoyed now, or to lay down to increase further in complexity.
1 * Cagliero Ravera Barolo 2018
A great Barolo from the cru Ravera, close to the villages of Barolo and Novello, from the fantastic 2018 vintage. This Barolo from Cagliero is pure and authentic, beautiful structure with a bouquet of violets, ripe fruit (plums) and spices. Layered and round in the mouth and beautifully balanced, young but pleasant tannins on the tongue, resulting in an endless finish. Already very good today, this wine will age beautifully for years to come!
1 * Château Prieurs de la Commanderie Pomerol 2016
92 Points (James Suckling) Clement Fayat set up his construction business in the 1950’s. Having grown it to the 4th largest in its sector (just behind Bouygues – owners of Chateau Montrose) he decided to follow his passion and began to invest in properties in Bordeaux. A lover of Pomerol, he purchased Prieurs de la Commanderie in 1984 and has begun to achieve the potential quality that rough diamond always promised. Dusty garnet colour. Aromas and flavours of mocha, toasty pistachio, and berry tart with a supple, bright, medium-to-full body and a seamless, captivating, medium-long finish that shows suggestions of chocolate cherries and orange peel, cocoa powder, vanilla nuts, delicate spices and cedar with silky soft, dusty tannins and light oak flavour. A supple and sensational Pomerol that entices for another sip.
1 * Château Jean Faure Grand Cru Classé Saint-Émilion 2018
95 Points Wine Spectator. One of Saint-Émilion's most prestigious Grand Cru's, located right next door to the famed Château Cheval Blanc. From the oldest surviving wine producing château in Saint-Émilion comes this incredible Grand Cru wine from a fabulous vintage. A sensationally moreish, fragrant and textured wine created by the renowned Olivier Decelle. "Another over-achiever in the vintage, the 2018 Château Jean Faure checks in as 65% Merlot, 30% Cabernet Franc, and 5% Malbec, which comes from a great terroir not far from Cheval Blanc, Figeac, and Ripeau. Sporting a vivid purple color and incredibly floral, elegant aromas and flavors, it hits the palate with full-bodied richness, a seamless texture, building tannins, and a great finish. The Cabernet Franc plays the lead role at this point, and this is going to benefit from 2-4 years of bottle age." If you like Cheval Blanc 2009 (£900 a bottle), you'll love this! Red wine at its best.
1 * Château Les Vimières 'Le Tronquéra' Margaux 2010
This wine is a piece of history and when sold out - it will be wine money cannot buy ! The owner of Château Les Vimières, Jacques Boissenot, was central to the development of new winemaking techniques in Bordeaux before he sadly passed away in 2014. Jacques had his hand on pretty much every First Growth production since the 1960s and was voted Decanter magazine's Winemaker of the Decade in 2010. This Margaux from the outstanding 2010 vintage amply demonstrates how he led the way for quality winemaking over a 50 year career.
1 * Château Chantelune Margaux 2019
91 Points - Decanter (2018) - A jewel located on top of the highest hill in Margaux, Château Chantelune is a unique property. Its previous owner, Mr. Soubrane was a carpenter who believed in felling his trees by moonlight, claiming this gave the best quality wood. His practice gave the property its name, meaning “sing to the moon.” The current owner is the world renowned José Sanfins, director at third growth property, Château Cantenac Brown and produces only 400 cases. The rounded tannins add a sexy backbone that leaves a wonderfully warm pleasing feeling on the palate that persists until you can’t help yourself but to go back for more. The elegant Merlot gives the wine balance and perfectly complements the Cabernet. One of the jewels of The Perfect Cellar collection!
