Corton is the only Red Grand Cru in the Côte de Beaune, and this cuvée from Decelle Villa is a limited production of only 300 bottles from the 'Climat' of Le Rognet. Solid and opulent, Corton is an icon of Burgundy, highly complex, powerful and structured with beautiful velvety tannins.
The Jewel of the Côte de Nuits, Vosne-Romanée is home to the finest and most expensive Pinot Noirs in the world. From the Aux-Communes climat, opposite to the great Grand Crus, this Vosne-Romanée exhibits all of the characteristics wines from this commune are heralded for. This can be enjoyed now or laid down for 15 to 20 years.
With 9 of the 24 Grands Crus of the Côte de Nuits, wines from Gevrey-Chambertin are known for their power, richness and a beautiful structure. The vines for this Gevrey-Chambertin are located at an altitude of 300m and produce this exceptional deep and intense dark red wine - Can be dunk now but will age gracefully.
This great village in the Côte de Beaune is unique in that it only produces red wines. The vineyards extend across ancient and well-drained alluvial soils, where the concentration of iron oxide reddens the earth. Close to the surface, the limestone parent rock, as well as the presence of marl, have made this great terroir for Pinot Noir. The age of this vineyard – over 60 years old – further reinforces the concentration of the grapes and allows for the production of a limited, yet top quality harvest.
94 Points - Tim Atkin. The Premier Cru vineyard of Les Chenevottes sits slightly higher up the slope than the world renowned white Grand Cru Montrachet. These two vineyards have a similar terroir, sharing soil composition, exposure to the sun and orientation. This Premier Cru Chassagne-Montrachet from Domaine Michel Niellon is a beautifully ripe and concentrated wine from a master producer.
This old Vines Puligny-Montrachet is from 65 year vines from the south of the Côte de Beaune home to the most famous Grands Crus vineyards (Bienvenues-Bâtard Montrachet, Bâtard Montrachet, Montrachet and Chevalier Montrachet). The grapes are harvested and sorted by hand and bottled following the lunar calendar to produce a wine of incredible freshness and minerality.
The Meursault Cuvée Charles Maxime from Domaine Latour-Giraud is a blend of the Lieux-dits of Les Vireuils, Les Corbins and Les Pelles. A plump, rich and generous wine, it is fermented and matured in barrel, around a 1/3 of which are new ok, for 15-16 months.
A direct neighbour of the prestigious Meursault appelation, Auxey-Duresses is famous for both its whites as well as red wines. This Chardonnay, hand harvested and aged in 30% new oak barrels for 14 months, displays a freshness and generosity, with notes of honey, white flowers and citrus fruits.
96 Points - Côte-Rôtie, or 'Roasted Slope' is the pre-eminent appellation in the Northern Rhone. The average age of the vines to produce this spectacular Côte-Rôtie 'Côte Blonde' is over 75 years, with the oldest dating back to 1934. This is an extraordinary wine which can be drunk now, after decanting, but will age beautifully.
'Les Corbonnes' is a small plot of Viognier vines on a steep slope in the commune of Chavanay, Northern Rhone. Sheltered from the wind to create a hot micro-climate, this Domaine De Boisseyt Condrieu is a rich, full-bodied and complex wine, fermented with natural yeasts and then aged for 9 months in 8 hl casks.
97 Points ! Undoubtedly one of the top vintages of this wine, the 2016 Chateauneuf du Pape La Crau from Domaine du Vieux Telegraphe is simply Chateauneuf du Pape at its very best. Highly acclaimed from all the top experts in the world - it has its place amongst some of the greatest fine wine ever produced.
This wine is a piece of history and when sold out - it will be wine money cannot buy ! The owner of Château Les Vimières, Jacques Boissenot, was central to the development of new winemaking techniques in Bordeaux before he sadly passed away in 2014. He was voted Decanter magazine's Winemaker of the Decade in 2010 and this Margaux from the outstanding 2009 vintage amply demonstrates how he led the way for quality winemaking over a 50 year career.
From one of the finest vintages of the century, Château Chantelune is owned by José Sanfins, director at third growth property, Château Cantenac Brown. Production is limited to just 400 cases. The small size of the vineyards allow Jose Sanfins to produce small quantities of exceptional fruit, and so the best quality wine.
This is truly an under the radar superstar!
