Special Bottles for Mothers Day

It’s hard to thank mums for all they do with a gift alone, but if you want to give it a try anyway, wine is a good place to start. It can, however, be a minefield if you don’t know exactly what you are looking for, so we have put together this guide to help you buy the perfect Mother’s Day bottle.

The Crowd Pleasers

For red lovers, Cabernet Sauvignon is the safe bet. Cabernet Sauvignon is the best selling red wine in the world, so the choices are endless. We recommend Château de Janicon Graves Rouge 2019, which has a 92 point wine score. Deep violet in colour, with flavours of black cherry and spice, this Cab Sav is fine and elegant with a full body and a long finish.

If she’s a white lover, it has to be a Chardonnay. Chardonnay has fully recovered from its bad reputation in the 90’s and early noughties, it has reinvented itself with elegance and class. Our suggestion is the Thelema Mountain Vineyards Chardonnay of 2018. This Chardonnay has a 93 point rating, it has been aged in oak barrels for 10 months which has given the wine a fruity, toasty oak flavour, and a silky texture.

The Adventurers

If you're buying for a mum who is an avid wine lover, you might be looking for something more on the adventurous side, something that she may not have tried before. Lebanese wine may be your ticket.

Lebanon is a lesser known wine making region, the winemakers here love French-style red grapes such as Merlot and Grenache, but they add their own character, so you can expect unique tastes and aromas. Massaya Rosé 2019 is a clean and delicate bottle, made with the perfect blend of Syrah and Cinsault. The grapes are picked from a vineyard at an altitude of 900-1200 metres, harvested in the early morning, giving the wine a beautiful freshness.
