Domaine Jean Monnier

Domaine Jean Monnier

Domaine Jean Monnier is one of the oldest domaines in Burgundy having been established in 1720. The current owner’s family, Nicolas Monnier, wine roots date back even further as he is a sixteenth-generation winemaker. Today the estate is comprised of 17 hectares of vines with prized parcels in Meursault, Puligny Montrachet, Volnay, Pommard and Beaune, all of which are planted primarily with old vines ranging from 25 to 60 years of age.

Premier Cru quality Burgundy for village money, Domaine Monnier owns 1.4 hectares of the famous lieu-dit (named place) of Meursault’s Clos du Cromin. Domaine Monnier’s Meursault Clos du Cromin 2022 was produced from low-yielding old vines which clearly benefited from the challenging, but outstanding conditions this vintage bought. The Les Argillieres is one of the rarer Pommard 1er Cru wines, one that Burgundy insiders regularly seek out. It sits high on the border with Beaune on soils of stony clay-rich marl and tends to give Pinot Noirs that are elegant and deeply coloured. Domaine Jean Monnier & Fils Pommard 1er Cru Argillieres 2020 was produced from old, low-yielding vines and has the intensity and concentration that this freakishly hot year brought. Powerful and robust when released, time has softened it and allo

The Meursault Premier Cru of Genevrieres is one of Meursault’s greatest sites with some critics arguing that its wines can be of Grand Cru quality when made by producers as fine as Jean Monnier. Facing southeast on the slope of Burgundy’s limestone escarpment, Genevrieres benefits from morning sun throughout the growing season which gives the wines an extra degree of weight and intensity. Domaine Monnier’s Meursault Genevrieres 2022 was produced from low-yielding old vines and is a perfect refle
