Douro

The Douro Valley is one of the world’s great wine regions, best known for Port, but increasingly respected for its outstanding still wines. Set along the steep, terraced banks of the Douro River in northern Portugal, the region combines old vines, native grape varieties and a warm, dry climate to produce wines with real character and depth.

Douro red wines are typically rich and structured, built on grapes such as Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca and Tinta Roriz. Expect dark fruit, spice and firm but well-judged tannins. These are proper food wines, equally suited to slow-cooked dishes or simply a good steak.

Douro whites are less well known but well worth exploring. Made from varieties like Rabigato, Viosinho and Gouveio, they offer freshness, texture and a subtle mineral edge that reflects the region’s schist soils.

At Perfect Cellar, our Douro range focuses on small producers and honest wines that overdeliver for the price. Whether you’re looking for a bold red or something fresher and more lifted, the Douro offers some of the best value in Portugal right now.
