Abeja Heather Hill Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon 2022
Abeja Heather Hill Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon 2022
96 Points - Wine Enthusiast. The single estate Cabernet from Abeja's own Heather Hill vineyard in the Walla Walla Valley, and an age worthy wine that Owen Bargreen called a world class follow up to the stunning 2021. It is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon, aged for nearly two years in French oak, so it shows the purity and precision of one site rather than a blend across the valley. Boysenberries, black licorice and worn leather give it perfume and savoury depth, and the velvety tannins and mouth watering acidity make it drinkable now and for years to come. Decant it, then serve it with a prime steak, lamb or a rich braise.

Taste
Boysenberries dominate the nose, with black licorice, worn leather and a puff of cherry flavoured pipe tobacco. The palate feels big and round, with flavours of black cherry, clove and blackberry tea. The tannins are velvety, and the acidity is of the mouth watering variety, giving freshness and length. Aged for nearly two years in French oak, 42% of it new. Drink now, or enjoy it over the next 15 years.

About the Producer
Abeja, Spanish for bee, is a century old farmstead in the foothills of the Blue Mountains outside Walla Walla, named to honour a deep respect for the environment and the value of working together. It was founded by Ken and Ginger Harrison, who came to Walla Walla in the late 1990s searching for land to plant world class Cabernet Sauvignon. The wines are made by Dan Wampfler and Amy Alvarez-Wampfler, whose combined experience includes Dan's time at Columbia Crest, where he helped make the wine that became Wine Spectator's number one wine of 2009. Heather Hill is one of the estate's own vineyards, and Abeja was named Washington Winery of the Year by Great Northwest Wine in 2023.
