Albert Bichot Gevrey-Chambertin 'Les Evocelles' 2019

Albert Bichot Gevrey-Chambertin 'Les Evocelles' 2019

94 Points - Jasper Morris - Inside Burgundy. One of the great appellations of the Côte de Nuits both in terms of size and reputation, Gevrey-Chambertin is characterised by a wide variety of different terroirs. No white wines are found here, only Pinot Noir is cultivated. The soil in this part of the appellation is composed of brown limestone and yields classy, fine, elegant wines. The vineyard is located in the northern part of the appellation, at the top of the hill where it benefits from optimal exposure and on gently sloping  terraces. The nose reveals slight notes of toast and subtle yet concentrated aromas of red fruit, which evolve toward a discrete hint of vanilla and liquorice. Fine and mineral, the palate offers a balanced structure and a nice long finish. A fabulous Gevrey from an exceptional terroir - Limited availability

Wine Press

94 Points - Jasper Morris (Inside Burgundy)

"Mid crimson-purple, discreet at first, followed by a significant weight of dark fruit behind, with enough acidity, waves of fruit keep coming. This is definitely ripe, but holds together well."

91 Points - Decanter (Charles Curtis MW)

"From a parcel at the top of the slope, in the northern extremity of Gevrey, crossing over slightly into the part of Brochon that may be included as Gevrey. Here, the site brings a lovely floral perfume to the ripe cherry fruit and a freshness on the palate that keeps the wine dynamic. There are enough grippy tannins here to help the wine age over the course of a decade."

92 Points - Falstaff

"Ripe but tart cherry freshness combines with the smell of freshly tanned leather, making this heady and evocative. A lovely note of white pepper signals spicy verve. The palate comes in with slenderness and does everything to maintain that tingling, peppery spice. In the end, a more soothing notion of ripe, red cherry takes over but the body remains fresh, bright and lucid. Beautiful. A.K."

Food Pairing

Red meat dishes, small game and fine, classic cheeses.

Serving & Cellaring

About the Producer

In 1831, Bernard Bichot founded a wine trading business in his name in Monthélie. His son, Hippolyte, succeeded him and bought the first vines in Volnay, already convinced that upstream control was essential. His son, Albert Bichot, the first to bear the name, gave the family business new momentum in the late 19th century and settled in the centre of Beaune once and for all in 1912.

The second Albert Bichot, who was born in 1900, was a pioneer of international commerce. North America, Asia, Oceania… He travelled incessantly in order to introduce our wines, which were already recognised as being among the best, to wine lovers around the world.

In the second half of the 20th century, his four sons, Albert, Bernard, Bénigne and Jean-Marc, inherited this know-how. A new era of expansion began with the construction of a large ageing cellar, a new bottling centre and winery. Our wines were available in all of the world’s continents.

As indicated in our Quality Promise we will happily refund or exchange any faulty bottles. All we ask is the bottles in question are returned to us at least half full for verification purposes. If a bottle is broken on delivery we will also replace or refund it but we do require photographic evidence of the breakage. Equally we can arrange for the bottles to be collected the next time you receive a delivery from us.

Should we be unable to fulfil any part, or all of an order, Perfect Cellar (Beyond the Bottle Ltd) will suggest comparable substitutions. You are free to refuse these suggestions and are eligible for a full refund of relevant parts of the order.

In all instances, Perfect Cellar (Beyond the Bottle Ltd) must be informed of any claim within 24 hours of receipt of delivery by email or telephone. All refunds will be issued after we have received and approved the faulty items and the amount will be re-credited to your account within 30 days. The amount refunded will be equal to the full amount paid for the relevant products at the time of purchase and must be made by the same payment method as the original sale.

If you choose to cancel your contract of sale with Perfect Cellar (Beyond the Bottle Ltd) you may do so within 30 days of receipt of the goods. If the goods have already been dispatched they must be returned to us unopened and undamaged, and Perfect Cellar (Beyond the Bottle Ltd) will not be liable for any costs associated with the original or return delivery.

No refund can be given when a case has left bond as the value will be affected. Individual bottles of Fine Wine will be considered for refund on a case-by-case basis.

We advise contacting our Customers Services team before making any claim to ensure the process goes as smoothly as possible.
