92 Points - Tim Atkin. Casa La Rad is a winery dedicated to the environment to sustain and improve its vitality and biodiversity. From the La Rad vineyard, the grapes are handpicked and carefully selected from bush trained vines 35 years or older, before malolactic fermentation in French oak barrels of 500 and 225 litres where it will be aged for at least 14 months. A highly rated wine by the international wine press, and gold medal winning wine at the Mundus Vini awards, Casa La Rad Tinto is a Rioja in the modern style not overpowered by the injudicious use of oak, with layers of complex aromas and vibrant fruit. A wine to be enjoyed now, or to lay down to increase further in complexity.

Marta Gallego makes this five-way blend from more or less equal parts Tempranillo,Graciano and Garnacha with 12% Cabernet Sauvignon and 3% Maturana Tinta. Stylishly oaked in 40% new French barrels, it's more than the sum of its parts, showing plum, cassis and raspberry fruit, graceful tannins and a grassy undertone. 2023-29

Powerful aromas of ripe black and blue fruits, vanilla, incense and potpourri are complicated by a smoky mineral flourish. Broad, fleshy and appealingly sweet, offering palate-staining boysenberry and cherry-vanilla flavors that firm up slowly on the back half. Rich yet vibrant in style, with excellent finishing clarity and smooth, even tannins arriving late to frame the wine's lush, sweet fruit. 2022 - 2032"

"The 2015 Rioja Tinto from Casa La Rad is produced from forty year-old bush vines in the La Rad vineyard, with the cépages ending up forty percent each of Tempranillo and Garnacha, ten percent Graciano and ten percent Maturana. The wine undergoes malo in eight hundred liter oak barrels and this is aged in all new French barricas for fourteen months prior to bottling. The 2015 comes in at fourteen percent alcohol and delivers a deep and serious bouquet of red and black cherries, cigar smoke, Rioja spice tones redolent of cloves and nutmeg, a fine base of soil and a very suave, understated framing of nutty new oak. On the palate the wine is pure, full-bodied and nicely light on its feet, with a good core, lovely focus and grip, plenty of complexity and a long, moderately tannic and quite promising finish. The new oak is a bit more evident on the palate than it is on the nose today, but there seems to be sufficient stuffing to absorb the wood nicely with a bit of cellaring. This is a young and very good bottle of Rioja in the making, but it will need at least four or five years in the cellar to start to blossom properly. Fine juice. 2023-2050+."

About the Producer
This family-owned estate in the northern foothills of the Iberian Massif (Valle de Ocón) encompasses 2,000 acres; composed of 1,360 acres of indigenous wood with a mixture of species from mountain and Mediterranean environments, 272 acres of vineyards, and 37 acres of olive groves. The remainder of the estate is dedicated to growing almonds and cereal crops.
The winery's focus in production is to seek a balance between their activity and the local environment so as to sustain or improve its vitality and biodiversity. They see the environment as not just the part related to nature, but also that related to the human beings who live and work in those surroundings.

As indicated in our Quality Promise we will happily refund or exchange any faulty bottles. All we ask is the bottles in question are returned to us at least half full for verification purposes. If a bottle is broken on delivery we will also replace or refund it but we do require photographic evidence of the breakage. Equally we can arrange for the bottles to be collected the next time you receive a delivery from us.
Should we be unable to fulfil any part, or all of an order, Perfect Cellar (Beyond the Bottle Ltd) will suggest comparable substitutions. You are free to refuse these suggestions and are eligible for a full refund of relevant parts of the order.
In all instances, Perfect Cellar (Beyond the Bottle Ltd) must be informed of any claim within 24 hours of receipt of delivery by email or telephone. All refunds will be issued after we have received and approved the faulty items and the amount will be re-credited to your account within 30 days. The amount refunded will be equal to the full amount paid for the relevant products at the time of purchase and must be made by the same payment method as the original sale.
If you choose to cancel your contract of sale with Perfect Cellar (Beyond the Bottle Ltd) you may do so within 30 days of receipt of the goods. If the goods have already been dispatched they must be returned to us unopened and undamaged, and Perfect Cellar (Beyond the Bottle Ltd) will not be liable for any costs associated with the original or return delivery.
No refund can be given when a case has left bond as the value will be affected. Individual bottles of Fine Wine will be considered for refund on a case-by-case basis.
