Chateau Beausejour-Duffau-Lagarrosse Saint-Emilion 1er Grand Cru Classe 2007
Chateau Beausejour-Duffau-Lagarrosse Saint-Emilion 1er Grand Cru Classe 2007
A Saint-Émilion first growth from a tiny 6.8 hectare limestone vineyard, and the home of the legendary 100 point 1990 vintage. This 2007 is now mature, elegant and ready to drink, with cherry, tobacco and mocha, so it is a chance to taste a rare and famous estate without waiting. Merlot leads on these limestone soils, giving sweet cherry fruit and a silky texture, while Cabernet Franc adds a fresh, leafy, savoury lift. It is lighter and more graceful than the blockbuster vintages, and it suits roast chicken, duck, lamb or a mushroom risotto. Decant gently and serve it just under room temperature.

Taste
Ruby garnet in the glass with a brightening rim. The nose is delicate and leafy, with sweet cherry fruit, citrus zest, tobacco spice and a touch of mocha coffee richness. The palate is fresh and full bodied for the vintage, with an elegant, finesse rich structure, fine tannins and an extract sweet finish. Best enjoyed now.
Blend
Merlot, Cabernet Franc
About the Producer
Château Beauséjour Duffau-Lagarrosse has been a Saint-Émilion first growth since the very first classification of 1955. It was in the hands of the Duffau-Lagarrosse family from 1847 until 2021, when it was bought by the Courtin family of the Clarins group, with ninth generation family member Joséphine Duffau-Lagarrosse now running it. The vines sit on a small limestone plateau of just 6.8 hectares, facing south and southwest just outside the village. Robert Parker gave the 1990 vintage 100 points, and the 2009 and 2010 vintages later did the same. The second wine is Croix de Beauséjour.
