97 Points - Vinous. Scored 97 points by Vinous, who called it a knock-out, this is the Third Growth that the Wine Advocate describes as Margaux's fastest-improving estate. It comes from the château with the famous Tudor style tower, and 2020 was the first vintage to include old vine Cabernet Sauvignon from the Margaux plateau. Cabernet Sauvignon leads with dark fruit, spice and crushed stone, and Merlot adds a velvet texture. It is a powerful, opulent Margaux with a cool, classic streak. Decant it for a few hours and serve it with roast beef, lamb or a rich stew, or lay it down for a decade or more.

Taste

Deep garnet purple in the glass. The nose is intense and layered, with dark cherry, plum, blackberry and cassis, plus chocolate, new leather, licorice, cloves, iron and crushed lead pencil. The palate is medium to full bodied, dense yet vertical, with chewy, velvety tannins and a cool, mineral side of crushed stone and slate. The finish is long, dynamic and earthy. Aged in French oak, 60% new. Impressive now with a long decant, and it should age gracefully for two to three decades.

About the Producer

Château Cantenac Brown was founded in the early 19th century by John Lewis Brown, a Scottish wine merchant who built the Tudor style château that makes it one of the most distinctive buildings in the Médoc. It was ranked a Third Growth in 1855. Since 2019 it has been owned by the Le Lous family, with Tristan Le Lous at its head and José Sanfins as director. Sustainable viticulture has been practised here since 1996, and the vineyard is described as certified HVE Level 3. The estate has also built a new cellar of raw earth and untreated timber, designed to be carbon neutral.

Your E-gift card will be delivered immediately to your email inbox for you to print off or forward on.

As indicated in our Quality Promise we will happily refund or exchange any faulty bottles. All we ask is the bottles in question are returned to us at least half full for verification purposes. If a bottle is broken on delivery we will also replace or refund it but we do require photographic evidence of the breakage. Equally we can arrange for the bottles to be collected the next time you receive a delivery from us.

Should we be unable to fulfil any part, or all of an order, Perfect Cellar (Beyond the Bottle Ltd) will suggest comparable substitutions. You are free to refuse these suggestions and are eligible for a full refund of relevant parts of the order.

In all instances, Perfect Cellar (Beyond the Bottle Ltd) must be informed of any claim within 24 hours of receipt of delivery by email or telephone. All refunds will be issued after we have received and approved the faulty items and the amount will be re-credited to your account within 30 days. The amount refunded will be equal to the full amount paid for the relevant products at the time of purchase and must be made by the same payment method as the original sale.

If you choose to cancel your contract of sale with Perfect Cellar (Beyond the Bottle Ltd) you may do so within 30 days of receipt of the goods. If the goods have already been dispatched they must be returned to us unopened and undamaged, and Perfect Cellar (Beyond the Bottle Ltd) will not be liable for any costs associated with the original or return delivery. 

No refund can be given when a case has left bond as the value will be affected. Individual bottles of Fine Wine will be considered for refund on a case-by-case basis.

We advise contacting our Customers Services team before making any claim to ensure the process goes as smoothly as possible.

Advent Calendars - Due to the made-to-order nature of our Advent Calendars, they are not eligible for a full refund. However, we reserve the right to issue a refund in the form of store credit.
