Chateau Lys de Maisonneuve Montagne Saint-Emilion 2020
Chateau Lys de Maisonneuve Montagne Saint-Emilion 2020
Gold Medal - Concours International de Lyon. It is no wonder that this is the former domaine of the Lacoste family who owned Petrus. A blend of 75% Merlot and 25% Cabernet Franc, Château Lys de Maisonneuve begins with aromas of red fruits and exotic spices are joined together with tobacco and herbs. Full-bodied with notable fruit tannin structure and a core of bright black cherries that lead up to the long juicy finish. Appealing now, and should continue to develop in bottle over many years.
Vivino Rating: 4.2 (Apr 2024)

Gold Medal - Concours International de Lyon (2020)
(HVE) Haute Valeur Environnementale
Bronze Medal - Decanter World Wine Awards (2019)
"Bright fruit character of black cherry and strawberry compote, with savoury notes of mint, jalapeno, black leaf tea, and sweet tomatoes. Creamy tannins, and a good balance of freshness to fruit intensity."
91 Points - International Wine Report (2018)
"The 2018 Chateau Lys De Maisonneuve Montagne-Saint-Émilion delivers lovely aromas and flavors of blackberries and cherries along with peppery spices, and dried herbs. On the palate, this is nicely balanced and well structured all the way through the long, chewy finish. This is already offering some early appeal, but should show its best with just some short-term cellaring."
Gold Medal Winner - Concours des Grands Vins de France a Macon (2018)
Gold Medal Winner - Concours de Bordeaux (2018)
About the Producer
The property stands on the rich limestone plateau on the border of the Saint Georges Saint-Emilion appellation and around 1 km from the Barbanne river which delivers blue clay to the Pomerol appellation. The soil here is identical to that of Chateau Soutard. The appellation is known for its deep limestone from its ancient seabed which the roots have to penetrate to access the clay below. It is no wonder that this is the former domaine of the Lacoste family who owned Petrus. The vines were replanted in 1957 so the vines are now around 60 years old.
Current owners, the Rospars family have now been tending to these soils for 4 generations and use only cement tanks to make a wine which is a pure expression of the Merlot and Cabernet Franc on the limestone soil.
