The 2020 label, "Ode à la vie" by French Chilean artist Federica Matta, celebrates the joy of life after the pandemic. Merlot leads here, unusually for Margaux, and it brings a plush, opulent heart that Cabernet Sauvignon frames with structure and blackcurrant freshness. A little Petit Verdot adds spice and colour. Powerful and juicy yet elegantly polished, it is a wine for roast lamb, duck or a long Sunday lunch. Decant it first, or lay a few bottles down.

Taste

Deep garnet purple in the glass. The nose is generous and perfumed, with blackcurrant, blueberry, black and red cherry and black raspberry, plus dried lavender, graphite, leafy tobacco and a touch of iodine. The palate is full and serious, yet tight and focused, with opulent berry fruit, caressing tannins and bright freshness. The finish is silky, refined and sneakily long. Delicious now with a decant, and it should age well for 20 years or more.

About the Producer

Château Siran is in the south of Margaux, on the gravelly Labarde plateau, and its history goes back to at least 1428. It has been owned by the Miailhe family for around 160 years, and 2020 marked their 160th harvest. Édouard Miailhe now runs the estate and is also president of the Margaux appellation, with Marjolaine Defrance as winemaker. The family are keen art collectors, and each vintage carries a label by a different artist. The vineyard has been certified High Environmental Value (HVE Level 3) since 2018, with woods and meadows left wild to protect biodiversity. Siran also has one of the more unusual cellars in Bordeaux, said to be built to withstand a nuclear accident.

Your E-gift card will be delivered immediately to your email inbox for you to print off or forward on.

As indicated in our Quality Promise we will happily refund or exchange any faulty bottles. All we ask is the bottles in question are returned to us at least half full for verification purposes. If a bottle is broken on delivery we will also replace or refund it but we do require photographic evidence of the breakage. Equally we can arrange for the bottles to be collected the next time you receive a delivery from us.

Should we be unable to fulfil any part, or all of an order, Perfect Cellar (Beyond the Bottle Ltd) will suggest comparable substitutions. You are free to refuse these suggestions and are eligible for a full refund of relevant parts of the order.

In all instances, Perfect Cellar (Beyond the Bottle Ltd) must be informed of any claim within 24 hours of receipt of delivery by email or telephone. All refunds will be issued after we have received and approved the faulty items and the amount will be re-credited to your account within 30 days. The amount refunded will be equal to the full amount paid for the relevant products at the time of purchase and must be made by the same payment method as the original sale.

If you choose to cancel your contract of sale with Perfect Cellar (Beyond the Bottle Ltd) you may do so within 30 days of receipt of the goods. If the goods have already been dispatched they must be returned to us unopened and undamaged, and Perfect Cellar (Beyond the Bottle Ltd) will not be liable for any costs associated with the original or return delivery.

No refund can be given when a case has left bond as the value will be affected. Individual bottles of Fine Wine will be considered for refund on a case-by-case basis.

We advise contacting our Customers Services team before making any claim to ensure the process goes as smoothly as possible.

Advent Calendars - Due to the made-to-order nature of our Advent Calendars, they are not eligible for a full refund. However, we reserve the right to issue a refund in the form of store credit.
