Château Tertre Samonac Côtes de Bourg 2020
Château Tertre Samonac Côtes de Bourg 2020
Bronze Medal - Decanter World Wine Awards. Vincent Mercier bought Château Tertre de Samonac in 2005, and is a self made Château owner. He has been making organic wine since the early 2000's, and this lovely 100% Merlot from 25-30 year old vines has a deep concentration of fruit and a great balancing acidity and tannins. A robust, yet balanced wine on the palate with good acidity, great tannins which will soften as the wine breathes. A wine with wonderful character and elegance.
Dark cherries, plums which are accented by spices, gravel and tobacco nuances that all develop in the glass. On the palate this is medium-bodied, with notable overall balance and and structured with fine-grained tannins that build through the finish.
About the Producer
In 2005 Vincent Mercier bought Château Tertre de Samonac. A young and ambitious man, Vincent Mercier (now 48) is originally from Corrèze but adopted Bordeaux as his home during his viticulture studies. In the beginning, Vincent vinified his wine through a cooperative. As time, experience, and success would have it in 2013, he decided to spread his wings and fly on his own, building his own winery. He has been producing organic wines since the early 2000’s so when Vincent finally bought his own property he was already involved in organic wine production. Therefore, with the valuable experience from his first job, he immediately began the process to gain organic certification for his property.
Bronze Medal - Decanter World Wine Awards (2020)
"Savoury nose of roasted meat, game, and toast. Palate of rich, ripe black fruit, blackberry, plum, and black cherry and generous use of oak."
91 Points - International Wine Report (2018)
"The 2018 Château Tertre-Samonac Côtes de Bourg offers a lovely mix of dark cherries, plums which are accented by spices, gravel and tobacco nuances that all develop in the glass. On the palate this is medium-bodied, with notable overall balance and structured with fine-grained tannins that build through the finish. Delightful now and should continue to develop with some bottle age over the next few years."
90 Points - International Wine Report (2017)
"The 2017 Château Tertre-Samonac begins with aromas of blackberries, cherries and red currants which come together with herbs, fresh florals and minerals. Medium-bodied with a lovely velvety texture that grips nicely leaving behind a mouthful of juicy red fruits lingering. While this will need a bit more time to flesh out, there is certainly potential for this to evolve beautifully over the next few years."
