Taste
A beautifully structured Champagne, the Comtes de Champagne Blanc de Blancs opens with honeyed notes of ripe citrus, poached nashi pear, butter wafers, and crème fraiche. Layers of lemon confit, dried flowers, spice, and chamomile follow, highlighted by hints of ginger, marzipan, and mint on the finish. Its fine mousse carries an energetic tension and purity, culminating in a long, toasty, and complex finish. Light to medium-bodied, it promises to evolve elegantly with age - ideal for enjoying now or cellaring for the future.
Wine Press Ratings
97 Points - Vinous (2014 Vintage)
"The 2014 Comtes de Champagne is pristine. In this tasting, it comes across as a mini-2008, similar in its linear personality, with just a touch more mid-palate creaminess. Readers will find a Comtes that plays in the realm of tension and energy. Citrus confit, white flowers, chalk, mint and chamomile are all finely sketched. Light tropical overtones grace the finish. What an absolute delight. The 2014 can be enjoyed now or cellared. Dosage is 9 grams per liter."
Producer
Taittinger stands apart as one of the last major independent and family-owned Champagne houses. Founded in 1734, it is the third oldest producer in the region and is famed for cellaring its wines in the UNESCO-listed Saint-Nicaise chalk caves of Reims - ancient crayeres originally dug by Romans. Taittinger’s signature is its high proportion of Chardonnay and its dedication to handcrafting prestige cuvées from only the best Grand Cru vineyards in the Côte des Blancs. The winemaking process even involves ageing a portion in new oak. Taittinger also leads in sustainability, holding certifications such as Viticulture Durable en Champagne and Haute Valeur Environnementale.
What is "Prestige Champagne"?
Prestige Champagne refers to the very best Champagne produced by a house - its “flagship” or “tête de cuvée” in French. These wines are made from the finest grapes, typically from the best vineyards - usually Premiers or Grands Crus - and in the most outstanding years. Prestige Champagnes are usually released only in exceptional vintages and crafted with extra care, often aged longer for greater complexity and depth. They are considered the pinnacle of the producer’s range and often have their own unique name, like Dom Pérignon (Moët & Chandon), Cristal (Louis Roederer), or Comtes de Champagne (Taittinger).
