Argiano Solengo IGT 2020

Argiano Solengo IGT 2020

98 Points - WinesCritic.com. Solengo was the brainchild of the legendary winemaker and father of Super Tuscan wines, Giacomo Tachis. The first vintage was 1995 and is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot, Merlot, Sangiovese. The wines are aged in French barriques for twelve months and are blended just before the bottling. A long period in bottle follows before the finished Solengo is released. Solengo, by the way, means solitary wild boar in Tuscan, and describes perfectly the regal, powerful, self-confident beast that lurks within each delicious bottle.

Wine Press Ratings

98 Points - WinesCritic.com (2020)

"Extremely captivating, breathtaking at first sight giving notes of black prunes, blackberries, coriander, nutmeg and cumin. Really spicy but solid with concentrated fruit showing a lot of muscle which covers the elegance in a balanced manner. Full bodied, very fine grained tannins which border on silkiness and a persuasive finale, balsamic and essential which closes in a fulfilling manner without showing any heaviness. One of the best Solengo wines ever. Argiano has reached impressive levels of quality."

Silver Medal - Decanter World Wine Awards (2020)

"Generous black fruit with a dash of rosemary on the nose, more oak character on the palate with juicy fruit."

96 Points - James Suckling (2018)

"Blackberries, spice, walnuts and currants on the nose, following through to a full bodied, tight and dense palate, yet it’s agile and linear at the finish. Firm, layered tannins. This needs to come around in the bottle. One for the cellar. Try after 2024."

97 Points - WinesCritic.com (2018)

"Solid and centered, it displays an opulent core full of blackberries, black plums, dark chocolate, cassis, black tea leaves and rosemary. In the background, the notes of fresh ginger and warm stone describe the secondary soul. Full body, velvety tannins on the palate slightly pounding at the moment and a finish that wisely combines horizontality and smoothness in progression. Best since 2022."

92 Points - Decanter (2018)

"Earthy nose with chili undertones over creamy vanilla and black plums aromas. Dry, bold and concentrated with a spicy finish."

93 Points - Wine Spectator (2018)

"A beam of pure blackberry, black currant, iron and earth flavors are accented by vanilla and coconut from the new oak. This red is dense, with nervous tannins that eventually dissolve into the fruit. Decant now and serve with a juicy, grilled steak or lamb chops, or wait 5 years. Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot, Merlot and Sangiovese. Best from 2024 through 2040."

94 Points - Falstaff (2018)

"Deep dark, bright garnet with purple tints. Elegant and fragrant nose of ripe raspberry and cherry, a light touch of leather, dried blood orange and poised savouriness. More elegance on the palate and full of tension, clear and precise with compact tannin that spreads grippingly over the tongue, mineral and with a long and clear finish."

About the Producer

Argiano’s history dates back to 1580, when the Pecci family of Siena began the construction of a magnificent villa, complete with vast cellars. In 1967, Argiano, which is the south west quarter of the Brunello appellation, was one of the founder members of the Consorzio di Brunello. In 1992 Contessa Noemi Marone Cinzano bought the estate, and engaged the world-famous Giacomo Tachis (the creator of Sassicaia, Tignanello and Solaia) as consultant oenologist.
