Chateau Haut-Maurac Medoc 2019

Chateau Haut-Maurac Medoc 2019

91 Points - Wine Enthusiast. Located in the district of Saint-Yzans, Château Haut-Maurac faces the Gironde estuary, similar to the best hillsides in Medoc. A low yield of 35hl/ha, this Cru Bourgeois Bordeaux has a muscular but balanced palate which is well structured and has a core of lovely polished fruits from the Merlot dominant blend. Owned by Olivier Decelle, who also has property in Saint-Émilion, Burgundy and Roussillon, this estate has produced a ripe, juicy wine. It shows a fine poise between elegant black fruits and a subtle layer of tannins, full and generous."

About the Producer

Château Haut-Maurac is owned by Olivier Decelle, owner of Grand Cru Classe Château Jean Faure in Saint Emilion, Domaine Decelle et Fils in Burgundy & Mas Amiel in Roussillon. All of his wineries have a single objective: excellence. In keeping with this lofty goal, Decelle sought properties with top quality soils which would translate to wines that express their great terroir. Château Haut-Maurac is no different. Situated in a vast appellation whose soils are of varying compositions, Haut-Maurac occupies a privileged spot on the gravelly ridges of St-Yzans-de-Médoc. Himself a wine-lover, Decelles makes wines that please him. Haut-Maurac, regardless of vintage, offers up typical Médocain aromatics, a muscular but balanced palate, with tannins that are surprisingly refined for a wine from the peninsula.

"This property is owned by Olivier Decelle, who also has vines in Saint-Emilion, Roussillon and Burgundy. Taut and structured, this wine also has blackberry fruits that give it richness. The 59-acre estate is dominated by Merlot that imparts a plush aftertaste. Drink from 2022"
