Paternoster Vulcanico Falanghina IGT 2021

Paternoster Vulcanico Falanghina IGT 2021

90 Points (2021) - Falstaff. The name Vulcanico highlights the character of this wine made from the vineyards near the Volcano Vulture. The freshness, balminess and delicacy typical of the Falanghina grape are seamlessly blended with the brightness and generosity, a unique combination reminiscent of Southern Italy. Wet stone, a spritz of lime and crushed yellow apple form an attractive bouquet as the 2021 Falanghina Vulcanico blossoms in the glass.

90 Points (2021) - Falstaff

"Bright yellow with golden reflections. On the nose, notes of ripe yellow fruit and hints of flowers and cut grass, followed by more intense notes of candied citrus, slightly spicy. Pronounced and pleasantly structured on the palate. Persistent finish reminiscent of sweet citrus notes."

90 Points - Vinous

"Wet stone, a spritz of lime and crushed yellow apple form an attractive bouquet as the 2021 Falanghina Vulcanico blossoms in the glass. It's round and pliant in feel with saline-tinged orchard fruits that add a savoury twist. Nuances of tropical melon and pretty inner florals linger as the 2021 finishes long yet crisply refreshing."

About the Producer

The small wine-growing region of Basilicata in the deepest south of Italy is surrounded by the regions of Puglia, Calabria and Campania and has only a small amount of coastline. Since 1925 Paternoster has been one of the symbolic wineries of Basilicata, interpreter of a wine history of excellence. Aglianico, one of the most difficult grapes to cultivate, grown at altitude on the basaltic soils of Monte Vulture is capable of giving fine wines with great ageing potential. With the flourishing of the Italian wine industry since the 1980s, interest in viticulture in Basilicata has increased again, especially since with Aglianico a highly interesting grape variety beyond the mainstream can be shown. Today, just over 6,000 hectares are once again under vines, with Aglianico accounting for the largest share. Probably the best wine in the region is Aglianico del Vulture, which grows on lava rock on the slopes of an extinct volcano
