Domaine Evremond Classic Cuvee Edition 1 NV
Domaine Evremond Classic Cuvee Edition 1 NV
93 Points - Vinous. Kent's chalky hills sit on the same kind of geology as Champagne, and this bottle shows exactly why the best English sparkling has such a following. It is made from the classic Champagne grapes, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Meunier, and it comes from one of the great Champagne houses. The result is crisp and lemony, with fine bubbles and a creamy, toasty finish. It is a proper celebration wine, and just as lovely with oysters, smoked salmon or a Friday evening for no reason at all. Serve it well chilled in a tulip glass.

Taste
Bright and citrusy on the nose, with lemon and green apple freshness, followed by lemony viennoiserie and a sea breeze note. The palate is slender and clean cut, with baked apple, quince, white peach and a touch of brioche, carried by fine, creamy bubbles and a saline, mineral thread. The finish is pure and lasting. Aged for over three years on lees, fermented and matured in stainless steel, with a dosage of 7 grams per litre. Delicious now, and it should keep well into the early 2030s.

About the Producer
Domaine Evremond is the English sparkling wine project of Champagne Taittinger, dreamed up by lifelong friends Pierre-Emmanuel Taittinger and Patrick McGrath MW of Hatch Mansfield. The vines were planted in 2017 on chalk and flint soils near Chilham in Kent, on south and southwest facing slopes chosen to echo Champagne. The estate takes its name from Charles de Saint Évremond, the Frenchman who introduced the wines of Champagne to the court of Charles II. This first edition is based on the 2020 harvest, blended with reserve wines, and the winemaking is led by Taittinger's own team. It was served at Windsor Castle during a state banquet for King Charles III and President Macron.
