Icario Trebbianno Toscana Bianco 2023

92 Points - Falstaff. Only 1,300 bottles of this barrel fermented Trebbiano were made, in a rare mix of American and French oak that gives a white far richer and more complex than Trebbiano usually is. It is hand harvested from a selection of the estate's best grapes, then fermented and aged for six months in 500 litre barrels, so the delicate flowers and fruit are woven with a subtle, creamy depth. Icario is Equalitas certified for sustainability. Serve it lightly chilled with roast chicken, creamy pasta, grilled white fish or aged pecorino, and expect it to age well.

Taste

Complex, elegant and fine, with hints of flowers and fruit perfectly blended with the character of barrel ageing. The palate has richness and depth, and the finish is long. Made from hand picked Trebbiano, with a short cold maceration before fermentation in 500 litre oak barrels, and six months in oak. Best served at 8 to 10°C. Delicious now, and, thanks to the grape and the long process, it lends itself to long ageing.

About the Producer

Icario sits at the entrance to the historic hill town of Montepulciano, in the heart of Tuscany. It was established in 1999 and bought in 2015 by the Austrian doctor Helmut Rothenberger, with Franco Bernabei as its consulting winemaker. It is known for its Vino Nobile di Montepulciano, and it combines traditional winemaking with modern design and contemporary art. The estate is Equalitas certified, which recognises its commitment to sustainability across the vineyard, the winery and its impact on the community. Its Trebbiano began as an experiment in 2020, when the winemaker decided to ferment it in oak and the only barrel available was a half American, half French one made for a wine fair, which gave the wine its character. Its cellar has a glass floor, so visitors can taste while looking down on the barrel room.

E-Gift Cards

Your E-gift card will be delivered immediately to your email inbox for you to print off or forward on.

As indicated in our Quality Promise we will happily refund or exchange any faulty bottles. All we ask is the bottles in question are returned to us at least half full for verification purposes. If a bottle is broken on delivery we will also replace or refund it but we do require photographic evidence of the breakage. Equally we can arrange for the bottles to be collected the next time you receive a delivery from us.

Should we be unable to fulfil any part, or all of an order, Perfect Cellar (Beyond the Bottle Ltd) will suggest comparable substitutions. You are free to refuse these suggestions and are eligible for a full refund of relevant parts of the order.

In all instances, Perfect Cellar (Beyond the Bottle Ltd) must be informed of any claim within 24 hours of receipt of delivery by email or telephone. All refunds will be issued after we have received and approved the faulty items and the amount will be re-credited to your account within 30 days. The amount refunded will be equal to the full amount paid for the relevant products at the time of purchase and must be made by the same payment method as the original sale.

If you choose to cancel your contract of sale with Perfect Cellar (Beyond the Bottle Ltd) you may do so within 30 days of receipt of the goods. If the goods have already been dispatched they must be returned to us unopened and undamaged, and Perfect Cellar (Beyond the Bottle Ltd) will not be liable for any costs associated with the original or return delivery. 

No refund can be given when a case has left bond as the value will be affected. Individual bottles of Fine Wine will be considered for refund on a case-by-case basis.

We advise contacting our Customers Services team before making any claim to ensure the process goes as smoothly as possible.

Advent Calendars - Due to the made-to-order nature of our Advent Calendars, they are not eligible for a full refund. However, we reserve the right to issue a refund in the form of store credit.
