Domaine de L'Espigouette Cotes du Rhone Vieilles Vignes 2021
Domaine de L'Espigouette Cotes du Rhone Vieilles Vignes 2021
This is a first class Côtes du Rhône, balanced, full flavoured, rich yet traditionally made from the traditional Domaine L'Espigouette where the some of the vines used for this Vieilles Vignes Cuvée are over 80 years of age. Predominantly Grenache (70%), and the rest being made from Syrah, Mouvedre, Cinsault and Carignan, the wine is aged for 12 months in concrete vats to produce a delicious, full-flavoured, old-fashioned, rich and spicy wine. When stirred, candied cherries, morello cherries and raspberry cream make the wine very attractive. The mouth does not disappoint, it is supple and delicious. It's a nice continuity with the nose. We note a lot of sweetness, roundness without any aggressiveness despite the presence of pretty tannins, well controlled. Good length. A delicious and highly recommended Côtes du Rhône from the Old Vines of Espigouette.

Taste
Winemakers tasting notes: Beautiful cherry red colour with a purple rim. The nose is generous, with crunchy red berries dominating. We also perceive as sweetness, something creamy, almost sweet. A wine of immediate pleasure, to be enjoyed all year round or with a filet mignon with prunes or a shoulder of lamb in herb juice.
Wine Press Ratings
92 Points - Wine International Report (2018)
"The 2018 Côtes du Rhône is a fantastic showing from Domaine de L'espigouette. Inviting aromas of cherries and black raspberries along with spices, crushed violets and minerals all take shape beautifully in the glass. On the palate this is medium to full-bodied and nicely balanced with a gorgeous round texture, which glides into the finish. Overall this is a lovely Côtes du Rhône Villages to approach now or allow a few more years in the cellar."
