95 Points - Wine Advocate. From La Crau, which many call Châteauneuf-du-Pape’s grandest cru, this is the flagship red of the Brunier family, who have been winegrowers here for five generations. Vinous finds the 2021 the most elegant of the last three La Crau vintages, so it is a Châteauneuf with finesse as well as depth. Grenache leads with raspberry and strawberry, while Syrah and Mourvèdre add spice and structure. The vines grow on the famous galets roulés, the large stones that hold the heat of the day and release it at night. Decant it, and serve it with roast lamb, duck or a mushroom casserole.

Taste

Delicate aromas of spices, licorice, garrigue, dark berries and dark cherries, with fresh forest berry, savoury and wet earth notes, and a lift of rose petals. The palate is medium to full bodied, layered and textured, with a lovely freshness, fine, chalky tannins and herbal energy. The finish is very elegant, with subtle nuances that tease. Aged for 20 months in traditional foudres and bottled unfiltered. Delicious now with a decant, and it should keep for 15 to 25 years.

About the Producer

Domaine du Vieux Télégraphe was founded when Hippolyte Brunier planted vines on the Plateau de la Crau, between Bédarrides, Châteauneuf-du-Pape and Courthézon, in 1898. His son Jules expanded the estate and named it after a semaphore tower that once stood in the vineyard. Today it is run by the fifth and sixth generations, with Frédéric and Daniel Brunier making the wines. La Crau is a stony plateau of large galets roulés over red clay and sandy subsoil, and its vines are around 45 years old on average. The estate describes its red as a classic Châteauneuf, very fine and elegant.

Your E-gift card will be delivered immediately to your email inbox for you to print off or forward on.

As indicated in our Quality Promise we will happily refund or exchange any faulty bottles. All we ask is the bottles in question are returned to us at least half full for verification purposes. If a bottle is broken on delivery we will also replace or refund it but we do require photographic evidence of the breakage. Equally we can arrange for the bottles to be collected the next time you receive a delivery from us.

Should we be unable to fulfil any part, or all of an order, Perfect Cellar (Beyond the Bottle Ltd) will suggest comparable substitutions. You are free to refuse these suggestions and are eligible for a full refund of relevant parts of the order.

In all instances, Perfect Cellar (Beyond the Bottle Ltd) must be informed of any claim within 24 hours of receipt of delivery by email or telephone. All refunds will be issued after we have received and approved the faulty items and the amount will be re-credited to your account within 30 days. The amount refunded will be equal to the full amount paid for the relevant products at the time of purchase and must be made by the same payment method as the original sale.

If you choose to cancel your contract of sale with Perfect Cellar (Beyond the Bottle Ltd) you may do so within 30 days of receipt of the goods. If the goods have already been dispatched they must be returned to us unopened and undamaged, and Perfect Cellar (Beyond the Bottle Ltd) will not be liable for any costs associated with the original or return delivery.

No refund can be given when a case has left bond as the value will be affected. Individual bottles of Fine Wine will be considered for refund on a case-by-case basis.

We advise contacting our Customers Services team before making any claim to ensure the process goes as smoothly as possible.

Advent Calendars - Due to the made-to-order nature of our Advent Calendars, they are not eligible for a full refund. However, we reserve the right to issue a refund in the form of store credit.
