Nerello Mascalese is the grape, and it is often compared with Pinot Noir for its pale ruby colour, perfumed red fruit and silky feel. On Etna's volcanic soils it picks up a smoky, mineral edge and a lift of fresh acidity that keeps every sip lively. It is elegant rather than heavy, so it works with lamb, grilled vegetables or simply a good bowl of pasta. Give it a short decant and let it open up.

Taste

Deep ruby in the glass with a vibrant, lively look. The nose is perfumed and layered, with dried cherry, red berries, plum and blue flowers, then hazelnut, campfire smoke and grilled rosemary. The palate opens with a tart attack of wild red fruits, then turns silky and round through the middle, with plum, strawberry and black cherry. Medium bodied with finely grained tannins and bright acidity, it is lean, stony and balsamic, finishing long with a herbal lift. Aged for 24 months in concrete and oak. Delicious now, and it should keep improving until the mid 2030s.

About the Producer

Idda is a joint venture between two great families of Italian wine: the Gajas of Barbaresco in Piedmont and Alberto Graci, one of Etna's leading producers. Angelo Gaja and Graci first met in 2015 and joined forces at the end of 2016. The name Idda means "she" in Sicilian, the affectionate and slightly awestruck way locals refer to Mount Etna. Together they farm around 20 hectares of vines on the mountain's southwest slope, in Belpasso and Biancavilla, planted mainly with Nerello Mascalese and Carricante. The Rosso is made from Nerello Mascalese, and 2017 was its first vintage. Gaia Gaja, Angelo's daughter, is closely involved in the project.

Your E-gift card will be delivered immediately to your email inbox for you to print off or forward on.

As indicated in our Quality Promise we will happily refund or exchange any faulty bottles. All we ask is the bottles in question are returned to us at least half full for verification purposes. If a bottle is broken on delivery we will also replace or refund it but we do require photographic evidence of the breakage. Equally we can arrange for the bottles to be collected the next time you receive a delivery from us.

Should we be unable to fulfil any part, or all of an order, Perfect Cellar (Beyond the Bottle Ltd) will suggest comparable substitutions. You are free to refuse these suggestions and are eligible for a full refund of relevant parts of the order.

In all instances, Perfect Cellar (Beyond the Bottle Ltd) must be informed of any claim within 24 hours of receipt of delivery by email or telephone. All refunds will be issued after we have received and approved the faulty items and the amount will be re-credited to your account within 30 days. The amount refunded will be equal to the full amount paid for the relevant products at the time of purchase and must be made by the same payment method as the original sale.

If you choose to cancel your contract of sale with Perfect Cellar (Beyond the Bottle Ltd) you may do so within 30 days of receipt of the goods. If the goods have already been dispatched they must be returned to us unopened and undamaged, and Perfect Cellar (Beyond the Bottle Ltd) will not be liable for any costs associated with the original or return delivery.

No refund can be given when a case has left bond as the value will be affected. Individual bottles of Fine Wine will be considered for refund on a case-by-case basis.

We advise contacting our Customers Services team before making any claim to ensure the process goes as smoothly as possible.

Advent Calendars - Due to the made-to-order nature of our Advent Calendars, they are not eligible for a full refund. However, we reserve the right to issue a refund in the form of store credit.
